Hearing aid option should be selected when there is a permanent sensorineural hearing loss, Presbycusis (Age related hearing loss) or any other conditions where surgical or pharmacological options are not useful.


Hearing aids are of various types so far the look is concern. The usual type of hearing aid that is suitable for aged population are the BTE (Behind The Ear) & RIC (Receiver In Canal) Hearing Aids.


Usually it is recommended that if someone has hearing loss in both the ears then they should go for hearing aid in both the ears which results in good speech understanding. Many people wear one hearing aid which will be adjustable but there will be always an issue of direction of finding sound source, speech perception in group conversation, speech in noise conditions etc.


Hearing aid price starts from 3900 onwards in siliguri and then goes up depending upon the technology and sound clarity.


An audiological test like Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) and consultation with an audiologist is recommended before buying a hearing aid 


There are many differences between a digital and non-digital hearing aids. The common differences are;

(1)  A digital hearing aid can be programmed with a computer according to the audiogram of the patient where as a non-digital hearing aid can't be programmed according to the patients requirement.

(2) A digital hearing aid always provides better sound clarity compare to a non-digital hearing aid.

(3) Digital hearing aids contain many features like noise reduction, frequency lowering, fine tuning etc. that is not there in non-digital hearing aids.
